I am a co-founder and the CTO of WaveOne, where we are building the next generation of digital media compression using machine learning.

I completed my Ph.D. in applied mathematics at MIT with advisor Ryan Adams of Harvard Computer Science. I was research fellow in the Harvard Intelligent Probabilistic Systems group, and worked at Facebook AI Research.

In my Ph.D. I conducted research in machine learning, and was (and still am!) particularly captivated by various problems in deep learning and Bayesian optimization, from representation learning to optimization and scalability.

I am from beautiful Vancouver, British Columbia, Canada. I completed my B.Sc. with distinction in the Combined Honours in Mathematics and Physics program at the University of British Columbia.
